LIFE WITH UNCLE KEN

A1.Young Ruskin loved to spend his holidays with his grandmother because she was a wonderful cook and she made delicious dishes for him.

A2.The author and Uncle Ken don't much approve of each other.Uncle did not like boys.They made him nervous.The author did not like that Uncle did not appreciate granny's cooking and that is why sometimes he enjoyed making him nervous.Uncle was always eager to know when the author would join his parents and the author was anxious to know when Uncle would get another job and leave.The author wished he was someone else's uncle.

A3.Uncle Ken had been smoking a cigar under a silk cotton tree without realising that there was a beehive above him.The fumes disturbed the bees,and they attacked him.

A4.Uncle Ken's visit to Lucknow became memorable because he was mistaken for a famous English cricketer, Bruce Hallam.Arriving at the station,he was cordially welcomed by the members of the Gomti Cricketing Association who were expecting Bruce Hallam to play in a charity match that day.Uncle Ken merrily went along with them and even played an innings in the match before running away rather than facing the prospect of fielding in the hot sun all afternoon.

A5.Uncle Ken's performance was highly appreciated in Lucknow.The balls that he hit were flukes most of the time but he got roaring applause each time.When he was run out the spectators blamed the other batsman.Though he made only four runs people felt it was worth coming to see the match.

A6.Emily was Uncle Ken's sister and the headmistress of a school in Lucknow.She kept him as a guest for a week,and then forced him to work in the boy's dormitory of her school.

b)Aunt Ellen commented that he hadn't had duck since he was there last month.He pretended to agree by adding that one expects more variety from her.He took two large helpings and ate most of the stuffing.

b)'He' was Uncle Ken who was a rather lazy and useless person. He hated to work and preferred living off others.

c)No,Granny didn't appear to be irritated by Uncle Ken's presence,probably resigned to his nature.By calling him eccentric,she was making excuses for him.

b)Uncle Ken enjoyed the rousing reception and the magnificent breakfast at the stadium.He got compliments for his shots.Later he had a hearty tiffin lunch too.

c)He is a lazy and opportunistic person.He hated to work and preferred living off others.

a)These words were said by Granny to Uncle Ken.

b)Granny was probably tired of Uncle Ken living with her and not showing any signs of moving out.

c)Uncle Ken reacted by complaining that there were no jobs in Dehra. When Granny pointed out that his sister was willing to employ him,he reacted with shock and distaste.
