Q1.
A1.The little 'cottage girl', the poet met, was charming young girl of eight. She had thick curly hair. She was so innocent that did not even undrstand the difference between the dead and living.

Q2.
A2.The poet asked the girl howmany brothers and sister she had.she replied that there werw seven of them.

Q3.
A3.One sister and one brother had died and were buried in the church yard,near her mother's cottage.Two of her siblings lived in Conway and two of them had become sailors.

Q4.
A4.The poet was not satisfied with the little girl's reply because she was able to account for only five people;herself ,two in Conway and two at sea.

Q5.
A5.The girl told the poet that her sister,Jane was confined to bed and lay in pain for quite some time and finally she died and thus relieved of suffering.Later on, her brother John also died and was buried in the churchyard by Jane's side.
Q6.
A6.The girl thought that there was no difference between the dead and the living,and that they were still seven sisters and brothers. The poet understands that two of them are dead so they are only five now.

a)The poet said this to the little girl.

a)It was futile trying to explain to the girl.

b)The girl thought that there was no difference between the dead and the living,and that they were still seven sisters and brothers.The poet understands that two of them are dead so they are only five now.He tries to explain this to her.But the poet could not convince the little girl.

c)The poet is correct in his calculations about the girl's brothers and sisters.But the girl is young and innocent.She sees no difference between the dead and living.He gives up as he understands the futility of trying to explain to her.
